An homage to an altered state of consciousness.

Reliable acid lovers Semiotic Ghosts return with another ode to late-night mischief-making. Acid Canyon sees the project delve into the distorted realms of micropower electronics in quite dramatic fashion. ‘Discrete Multitone Therapy’ gets things moving with the deep, bitrate oscillations that carry across the entire release, all metallic and grimy. Unhinged feedback maps out devilish headphone hi-jinks on ‘Do Mice Time Travel’, which flits out of control with a ferocious delay.

Oscillations and radiophonics are given space to develop and breathe across the length of a single track, allowing the listener to burrow deeper and deeper into somewhere not quite known. There is a suggestive subterranean quality to much of the record then, track titles aside. Dark, spacey soundscapes loom out of this electronic collage, which makes use of smooth internal organs and exotic planetary textures for a mesmerising, cerebral result. Two prepared meditations for transcendental listening experiences.

Semiotic Ghosts are doubtlessly on a journey, steadfast in their dedication to the cause of their name. Following on from the sorts of non-adhesive spirituality that informed 20th century modern classical music in its dream of peace and oneness (we’re thinking La Monte Young and Terry Riley in particular), the on-going meditations of Ghost D, Ghost B and Ghost 3 culminate here with Acid Canyon, a cassette occupied not by arrival but the constancy of movement.
